One killed as truck overturns on house in Narail at midnight
A student named Shamima Akter Setu (17) who was sleeping in her house was killed when a truck loaded with stones lost control and overturned on a house in the Naldi area of Lohagara upazila of Narail at midnight on Sunday (July 5). The deceased Setu is the daughter of raw material trader Md. Hafizr Moliya of Naldi area of Lohagara upazila. Setu was studying in the eighth grade of BSS Secondary School in Naldi. The younger sister of the deceased Setu Mitu Khanam (13) was injured in the incident.
According to local sources, on Sunday night, she was carrying stones for a bridge under construction in Brahmandanga of the same upazila from Narail town via Mithapur in Lohagara upazila. Around midnight, the truck entered the Naldi area and entered a narrow road in the wrong direction. After going some distance, the truck overturned and fell on the house of Hafizr Moliya, who was standing by the road. At that time, the stones from the truck fell and covered a house. Setu and Mitu, who were sleeping, were crushed under it.
They also said that upon hearing the noise, people nearby came forward and removed the stone and rescued the dead Setu and the seriously injured Mitu. Mitu was later taken to Narail District Hospital for treatment. Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim said that after receiving the information about the accident, the police went to the spot. The truck driver fled immediately after the incident. The body of the deceased has been sent to the district hospital for autopsy. However, no case has been filed by the family yet.
