Number of seats in government and private medical colleges 11,378: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that currently there are 37 government and 68 private medical colleges under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In addition, there are 1 government and 5 private medical colleges run by the Bangladesh Army and 1 private medical college run by the Bangladesh Navy. He gave this information in response to a starred question raised at the table of Lutfullahel Majed, a member of the government party from Mymensingh-8 constituency, in the National Parliament today, Thursday (June 25).
The minister said that the total number of seats in government medical colleges under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is 5,100 and the number of seats in private medical colleges is 6,278. He said that currently, a total of 105 government and private medical colleges in the country are 11,378 students.
The health minister said that human resource development of the country, public health protection and expansion, modernization and quality improvement of medical and nursing education are among the main goals of the current government. He further said that to implement this goal, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, under the leadership of the government, has adopted a comprehensive action plan and is implementing various initiatives to improve the quality of medical education and healthcare.
