News of dropping Bengali, history and philosophy subjects from honours level ‘baseless’

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that the news of dropping Bengali, history and philosophy subjects from honours (undergraduate honours) level is ‘baseless’. He told reporters after the ECNEC meeting at the Secretariat today (June 9).
Responding to reporters’ questions, the Education Minister said that no decision has been taken to drop any subject. A review is also underway to add new subjects to honours as per demand. At the same time, ECNEC also discussed the projects undertaken to develop the madrasa education system.
It is worth noting that the Education Ministry recently announced plans to reform the new curriculum and add a few new subjects for the 2027 academic year. In the meantime, news of dropping these subjects suddenly spread on social media.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Information Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said in a briefing at the Secretariat today that there will be a Bengali, history and philosophy department at the honours (undergraduate) level. However, discussions are ongoing as to whether it will be available everywhere or not. No formal decision has been finalized on these matters yet.
