Law Minister gets new responsibility
The government has reconstituted the committee to make government procurement activities more effective and meaningful. A notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division yesterday (July 5). Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the chairman of this committee.
The notification signed by Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division (Committees and Finance) Md. Humayun Kabir said that this 9-member committee has been reconstituted with the aim of reforming the overall activities of the Cabinet Committee on Finance and Government Procurement of the country and formulating specific recommendations.
Other members of the committee are – Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud; Industries, Textiles, Jute and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir; Advisor to the Ministry of Public Administration Md. Ismail Zabiullah; State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md. Rajib Ahsan; State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani; Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md. Khayeruzzaman Majumder; Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority Chief Executive Officer S. M. Moin Uddin Ahmed.
The notification also mentions the terms of reference of the committee. They are – To determine the working procedures of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement. To review the parts of the Public Procedure Act (PPA), 2006 and the Public Procedure Rules (PPR), 2025, which include the terms of reference of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement, and to formulate recommendations for their further implementation and to perform any duties assigned by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement. The committee will meet as needed. The committee may include members if necessary. The Cabinet Division will provide secretariat support to the committee. The notification further states that it will come into effect immediately.
