Landslides kill 9 in Cox’s Bazar due to heavy rain

Due to heavy rains for a long time, a terrible landslide has occurred in Cox’s Bazar. At least 9 people have died in the Rohingya camp and the city. Several others have been injured.
The Fire Service said that three separate landslides occurred in the Jamtali, Kutupalong and Balukhali Rohingya camps in Ukhia early in the morning. Eight people, including women and children, were killed in the landslides. Three people from the same family lost their lives in the Jamtali camp, one child in the Kutupalong camp and four people, including women and children, in the Balukhali camp. In addition, three people from the same family were buried in a landslide in the Pahartali area of ​​Cox’s Bazar town. They were later rescued and taken to the hospital, but one died. Local volunteers and fire service personnel are conducting rescue operations.
The Meteorological Department has recorded more than 250 millimeters of rainfall in Cox’s Bazar in the last 24 hours. The agency said that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the next two days. The administration has urged residents of vulnerable areas to evacuate to safer places due to fears of landslides.
