Jubo League leader and her boyfriend arrested for having extramarital affairs at midnight
Locals have arrested a Jubo League leader and her ‘alleged boyfriend’ on charges of anti-social activities and extramarital affairs in the newly formed Fatikchhari North Upazila of Chittagong and handed them over to the police. Later, they were sent to court after completing the legal process. The incident took place at around 1 am today (July 22) in the Rubber Dam Dolu Arlia area of Ward No. 6 of Bhujpur Union of the upazila.
The arrested are Rashu Begum (40), a female member of the convening committee of the newly formed Fatikchhari North Upazila Awami Jubo League, whose activities are banned. She is the wife of an expatriate from the area. Along with her, Md. Hashem (45), son of Bacha Mia from Kotbaria Nazirkhil area of the same union, was arrested. Police and local sources said that the locals came to know about the matter when Hashem went to Rashu Begum’s house at midnight on Wednesday. Later, the two were arrested on charges of anti-social activities and handed over to Bhujpur police station.
Bhujpur police station Jubo Dal general secretary Ekramul Haque Ekram said, “We strongly condemn and strongly protest this act.” Local Jubo Dal member Mohammad Sohel Munshi said, “There have been allegations of immoral activities against Rashu Begum for a long time. She was warned about this several times, but she did not take it into account. Recently, locals arrested her and the person with her in a similar incident and handed her over to the police.”
Bhujpur police station OC Bipul Chandra Dey said, “Locals arrested the two and handed them over to the police. After further legal proceedings, they have been sent to court.”
