Japan leads 2-0 in first half against Tunisia
The epic that began with the matches between Mexico and France and the United States and Belgium in 1930, today the tournament reaches an unforgettable milestone of the ‘1000th match’ at the 2026 North American World Cup. And in this thousandth historic match, Asian powerhouse Japan faced Tunisia at the Monterrey Stadium in Mexico and showed their dominance in the first half.
From the start of the match today (June 21) on Sunday, the ‘Blue Samurai’ took advantage of the weakness of the Tunisian defense. Just 4 minutes into the match, Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada struck the first blow against the Tunisian defense. Japan took the lead early with a brilliant and quick goal. They had another golden opportunity to double the lead in the 9th minute of the match, but the African team was saved by an incredible save from the Tunisian goalkeeper.
However, Tunisia was not spared in the 31st minute of the match. Japanese forward Ayase Ueda, receiving the ball from his teammate in midfield, ran towards the D-box in a counterattack. With the Tunisian defenders completely unable to stop him, Ueda took a perfect corner shot from the top of the box. The ball slipped through the legs of Tunisian defender Montas Talbi and went straight into the net.
