Iran to return seized $6 billion

Iranian President Masoud Pajhwok has announced that sanctions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical sectors have been lifted as part of an agreement with the United States. He also said that the country’s seized $6 billion will be returned through Qatar. Mehr News Agency
Pajhwok made the announcement during a meeting with Grand Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani during his visit to the city of Qom on Monday (June 29). Calling the recent agreement with the United States a “big victory” for the Iranian people, he said, “A total of $12 billion of Iran is stuck in Qatar. Of this, $6 billion will be released in the first phase and the process of returning the rest is underway.”
He said that the release of funds and the lifting of sanctions are part of the talks held in Switzerland and the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad. President Pajhwok praised the steadfast stance of the Iranian people during the war. He said that even after the killing of the country’s supreme leader, ministers, military commanders, prominent figures and even schoolchildren, the people, armed forces and government stood united and protected the country.
He claimed that the United States and Israel tried with all their might to destabilize Iran and thought that they would weaken the country through economic pressure. But with the resistance of the people and the help of God, that plan failed. Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran does not want to develop nuclear weapons. He said, “We assure the international community that our nuclear activities will be limited to the needs of the country and the declared policies.”
He also claimed that in the end, it was the United States that forced Israel to accept the agreement. However, he commented that Israel and some opposition groups are still opposing the implementation of the agreement. In addition, the president said that post-war reconstruction efforts have begun and that supportive measures such as increasing food subsidy credit facilities for the people are also being taken.
