‘Hezbollah is the pillar of Lebanon’s independence’
Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has called Lebanon’s armed and political resistance movement Hezbollah the main foundation or main pillar of the country’s sovereignty and independence. He praised Hezbollah’s role in the geopolitics of the Middle East as very significant.
In a post on social media today (June 29), the influential Tehran policymaker and former foreign minister highlighted Hezbollah’s contribution to protecting Lebanon’s independence. He noted that the Iranian-backed resistance movement is acting as a strong shield against foreign interference and aggression not only inside Lebanon but also in the entire region.
In light of his long political and diplomatic experience, Ali Akbar Belayeti said, “From my long international and diplomatic experience, I want to state one truth clearly – external independence without political independence is nothing more than a ‘golden cage’.”
According to him, if a nation cannot be politically independent and free from foreign pressure, then their independence becomes meaningless. And the reason why Lebanon is able to make its own decisions as an independent state today is because of the presence of a powerful force like Hezbollah.
According to analysts, Belayeti’s comments are an expression of Iran’s firm commitment to further strengthening the axis of resistance against Israel and Western powers in the Middle East. Belayeti essentially reiterated how important Hezbollah’s deep influence in the political and military arena of Lebanon is for maintaining the overall stability and geopolitical balance of the region.
