Grandson accused of shooting grandfather during arbitration meeting
A complaint has been filed in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, for shooting an old man named Nazrul Islam (70) during an arbitration meeting. Allegedly, a young man named Ashiq shot him during an arbitration meeting called to resolve a family dispute. Ashiq is the grandson of the old man. Later, Nazrul Islam was admitted to Sadar Hospital in an injured condition.
The incident took place on Saturday (July 4) evening at the house of Hamidullah Patwari in Rashidpur village of Bossikpur union of the upazila. The injured Nazrul Islam is the son of the deceased Khalilur Rahman Patwari of Rashidpur area. The accused Ashiq is the son of Ismail Hossain Faruk of the same house.
According to local sources, Faruk and his wife Ayesha Begum had a family dispute with their uncle Nazrul Islam. An arbitration meeting was held locally on Saturday morning regarding this incident. Nazrul Islam and a few others were present at the meeting. At one point during the meeting, he had a heated exchange with Ayesha Begum. Ayesha informed her son Ashiq, who was in Dhaka, about this on her mobile phone. Ashiq came to the area in the evening after receiving the news.
At that time, Ashiq allegedly shot Nazrul Islam at one point during an argument over the incident. The bullet hit his left wrist. Ashiq has been absconding since the incident. In this regard, Faruk said, Ashiq shot my uncle. Now he is threatening me too. I am seeking the administration’s intervention in this incident.
The shot Nazrul Islam said, Faruk called me. I had an argument with Faruk’s wife Ayesha during the arbitration meeting. As a result, Ashiq came and shot me. I want a fair trial in this incident. Laxmipur Sadar Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Shamim Mohammad Afzal said, an old man was brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds. We advised him to get an X-ray. After the X-ray, it will be confirmed whether there is a bullet in his body or not. He has been referred to Noakhali for better treatment. Laxmipur Additional Superintendent of Police Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said, “We have come to know about the incident. Police have been sent to the spot. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.”
