Footballers fighting for dignity in US: Iranian Foreign Minister

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the country’s officials, negotiators and footballers are all playing their respective roles in the struggle to protect the honor and dignity of the Iranian people. He made the comments in a post on social media. He made the comments after news of progress in ongoing talks between the US and Iran in Switzerland and Iran’s draw against Belgium in the World Cup.
In the post, he shared a photo of schoolchildren killed in a joint Israeli-US attack and footage from a World Cup football match. “From the football field to the negotiating table or the battlefield – every step we take as Iranians is part of a larger struggle; and that is to protect the honor and dignity of our beloved people,” he wrote. He also referred to the missile attack on the Shahzareh Tayyeb Girls’ School on February 28. That attack killed about 160 people, most of them schoolchildren and teachers.
He remembered the victims and paid tribute to their sacrifice.
