Five members of the same family burnt in gas explosion in Narayanganj
Five members of the same family were burnt in a gas explosion in Narayanganj. The incident took place on Sunday (May 10) at around 7 am in the city’s Bhuigarh Giridhara area. Locals said that a loud explosion was heard in the flat on the ground floor of an 8-storey building in the morning. Hearing the sound, they quickly rushed to the spot. Later, Mohammad Kalam, his wife Salma and their three children Munna, Munni and Katha were rescued from the house while they were burnt.
Locals also said that the seriously injured have been taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital. Upon receiving the information, members of the fire service reached the spot and started a preliminary investigation. The fire service said that initially it is believed that the accident occurred due to a leakage in the gas line. Due to a hole in the gas line, gas had accumulated in a closed room. The explosion occurred when an attempt was made to light a lighter in the morning. However, fire officials said that it is not possible to confirm the exact cause of the explosion before the investigation is completed.
