Fisherman goes missing after falling from trawler in Baleshwar river

A fisherman named Mahalum Baipari (60) has gone missing after falling from a fishing trawler in Baleshwar river near Jiyanagar bridge in Pirojpur. The incident took place today, Saturday (July 4), at around 10 am. The missing Mahalum Baipari is the son of Burjuk Ali Baipari of Purba Chandipur village of Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.
According to local sources, Mahalum Baipari was preparing to go fishing in a fishing trawler named ‘Mayer Doa’ from under the third pillar of Jiyanagar bridge when he inadvertently fell from the trawler into the Baleshwar river. He has been missing since then.
Hafizul Baipari, the captain of the trawler, said that Mahalum Baipari suddenly fell into the river while he was going fishing in the sea with the trawler at around 10 am. Despite immediate rescue efforts, he drowned. Locals launched a rescue operation immediately after the incident. Later, upon receiving information, a team of fire brigade reached the spot and started the rescue operation. According to the latest news, no trace of the missing fisherman has been found.
Nuruzzaman, station officer-in-charge of the Jiyanagar fire brigade, said, “Our rescue operation is underway. A diving team from Barisal has left for the spot. After they arrive, a more extensive rescue operation will be launched.”
