ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister

The fourth meeting of the government’s National Economic Council (ECNEC) is underway at the Cabinet Division under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The ECNEC meeting, which began at 10 am today (June 9), will discuss 12 new and revised projects; the potential cost of which is estimated at Tk 8,106 crore.
The relevant ministries and departments have prepared the projects, emphasizing infrastructure development, water resources management, healthcare, information technology, local government, power and energy, and social security sectors. Ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to China, the project to establish a Chinese economic zone on 800 acres of land in Anwara, Chittagong at a cost of about Tk 4,000 crore may get approval in this meeting.
In addition, ECNEC is presenting a new project proposal called ‘Bangladesh Children’s Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2’ to further strengthen child health protection. The implementation period of the project has been set from July to June 2028 and its potential cost has been set at Tk 344 crore. Several other major projects, including the development of the Anwara-Baanshkhali-Chakaria regional highway, the construction of an integrated upazila land complex, and the expansion of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital, are being presented to Ecnec for approval.
