Dr. Shafiqur Rahman elected as Ameer of Jamaat again

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been elected as Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami again. Through this, he has been declared Ameer for the third consecutive term for the years 2026-2028. This information was given in a press release sent by the party today, Sunday (November 2).
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum, who is in charge of conducting the internal elections of Jamaat-e-Islami, announced the results of the ‘Ameer’ election of the organization on the night of November 1 (Saturday).
It is known that votes were taken from members (members) across the country through secret ballot from October 9 to October 25. After the voting process, the concerned party completed the counting of votes. According to the results obtained, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been elected as Ameer of Jamaat for the term 2026-2028 by getting the highest number of votes.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was born on October 31, 1958, in a respectable Muslim family in Bhatera Union of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar district. He passed his SSC from the local Baramchal High School in 1974 and his HSC from Sylhet MC College in 1976. After earning his MBBS degree from Sylhet Medical College (now MAG Osmani Medical College) in 1983, he dedicated himself to politics along with medical services.
He joined the Jasd Chhatra League in 1973. In 1977, he joined Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. Later, he served as the president of the Sylhet Medical College branch of this organization and the president of the Sylhet city branch.
Then in 1984, he entered larger politics by joining Jamaat-e-Islami. Later, he served as the Ameer of Sylhet city, district and metropolitan. In 2016, he was appointed Secretary General of Jamaat. He was elected Ameer on November 12, 2019, through a direct vote of the Rukons (members) of Jamaat-e-Islami.
