Daytime robbery on Teknaf Road, 1 person shot
A group of masked robbers who came down from the hill near Damdamia Bridge No. 14 on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Road robbed a bus by throwing a nail-studded tree on the road. During this, one person was shot in the attack by the robbers. In addition, the robbers looted 6 million taka of mobile banking from some people on the bus.
The incident took place today (August 2) at around 1:45 pm. The name of the person who was shot is Md. Arman (24). In addition, two others named Shakib (21) and Ekram (22) were injured in the attack by the robbers. They are all residents of Teknaf Municipality.
According to local sources, a bus of Palki Paribahan was going from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar. On the way, a group of masked robbers who came down from the hill near Bridge No. 14 stopped the bus by throwing a nail-studded tree on the road and showing weapons. There were three sales representatives (SRs) of MFS (Mobile Financial Services) company in the bus. They were taking money to agents of Hnila and Hoi Kyung unions.
They said they were withdrawing money from a bank in Teknaf. According to locals, one person was injured in the firing by Rohingya and local miscreants at that time. Later, sensing the presence of law enforcement agencies, they fled towards the hills. People say that if the entire administration immediately launches a joint operation, it will be possible to arrest the robbers and recover the looted money.
Meanwhile, such robberies on the highway in broad daylight have created new concerns about public safety. Locals have demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the incident and strengthening security on the highway. Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said that the scene was inspected as soon as the news of the robbery was received. The bus has been seized and taken to the police station. BGB, Coast Guard and police teams are at the scene. He also said that a joint operation will be conducted soon and legal action will be taken against those involved.
