Colombia advances to last 16 after defeating Ghana, to face Switzerland
Colombia secured a place in the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 win over Ghana. John Arias scored the only goal of the match. The victory will set up a last-16 clash with Switzerland. The two teams will face each other at Kansas City Stadium in the United States on Saturday (July 4) at 7:30 am Bangladesh time in this round of 32 match.
Arias put Colombia ahead in the 14th minute with a close-range shot from Luis Suarez’s cross. Suarez had come on as a replacement for the injured John Cordoba. Luis Diaz doubled the lead in the 56th minute of the second half, but the goal was ruled out for offside by VAR.
Colombia dominated the match throughout. However, they were unable to extend their lead due to several excellent saves from Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Jigi. With this victory, Colombia will face Switzerland in the last 16 of the World Cup next Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada.
