Child dies after getting a nut stuck in his throat

A three-year-old child named Monha Moni died after getting a nut stuck in her throat in Nalitabari, Sherpur. The child met with this accident on Tuesday (June 30) while visiting her maternal grandfather’s house with her family and going to her maternal grandfather’s workplace, Mostafa Tanta Government Primary School.
Monha Moni is a resident of Sylhet and the daughter of bank officer Md. Rubel. Her maternal grandfather Mostafa Ahmed is a resident of Araini Bazar Beparipara in Nalitabari Municipality and the headmaster of Mostafa Tanta Government Primary School.
According to family and local sources, Monha went to school with her maternal grandfather yesterday morning. She was given nuts to eat in the school premises around noon. At one point in the meal, a nut got stuck in her trachea. Suddenly, Monha started having breathing problems. Seeing her serious condition, she was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex. However, she died before being brought to the hospital.
Tanvir Ibne Quader, a doctor at the Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the incident. He said the child died before being brought to the hospital. It is initially believed that he died of suffocation due to a nut getting stuck in his airway.
