BNP worker accused of attack in Ukhia woman’s death

A woman was attacked while trying to protect her son in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. The deceased woman’s name is Chhaya Khatun. The incident took place on Saturday (May 16) night in Typalong village of Rajapalong union of the upazila. Relatives of the deceased said that a few days ago, tension arose in the area over the writing ‘Joy Bangla’ on the wall of Typalong madrasa in Ukhia. Local BNP leaders filed a complaint with the police station regarding the incident.
Then last night, banned Chhatra League supporter Yunus reacted ‘ha-ha’ to a Facebook post by Chhatra Dal leader Jisan. After this incident, some BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and workers beat Yunus. At that time, his friend and NGO worker SM Imran was also beaten.
Relatives alleged that when Imran’s mother Chhaya Khatun went to the spot after receiving the news, she was also attacked. After being rescued and taken to Ukhia Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared Chhaya dead. Meanwhile, accused upazila BNP members Mizanur Rahman Sikder, Jisan and a few others claimed in a press conference last night that they were not involved in the incident. Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman said that banned Chhatra League supporter Yunus has been taken into custody and the matter is under investigation. No case has been filed in this regard yet.
