BNP leader’s wife arrested with 40,000 yaba pills

The District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested a BNP leader’s wife and a Rohingya national associate from Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. They were arrested at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday (May 20) from Nazrul Islam’s house in Hazirpara of Kachchhpia Union of Ramu based on secret information.
The arrested are Saleha Begum (45), wife of Nazrul Islam, vice-president of Kachchhpia Union BNP in Ramu Upazila. The other is Mohammad Hashim alias Osman (35). He is a resident of Thaingkhali Rohingya Camp-13 in Ukhia.
Police said that a raid was conducted at Nazrul Islam’s house in Hazirpara of Kachchhpia Union of Ramu based on secret information. At that time, 40,000 pieces of yaba pills were recovered from the house and Saleha and her associate were arrested. During the raid, 3 to 4 more drug dealers escaped.
Ramu Police Station OC Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident. He said a case under the Narcotics Control Act is pending against the two arrested and the absconding individuals. At the same time, a drive is underway to arrest other members of the gang.
