Bangladeshis living illegally in Romania are getting the opportunity to legalize
Bangladeshi workers living illegally in Romania are getting the opportunity to legalize. This opportunity will be valid until December 31. The Bangladesh Embassy in Romania announced this in an emergency notification on Tuesday (April 28). The emergency notification said that in accordance with the Emergency Ordinance No. 32 (April 23, 2026) of the Romanian Government, which was published in the Official Gazette No. 335 (April 27, 2026), and Article 52 of the General Amnesty Program, a conditional legalization opportunity has been created for foreign workers from non-European Union countries who have illegally migrated to Romania for various reasons.
The Bangladesh Embassy welcomed this initiative. It was informed that as a result, many Bangladeshi workers living illegally will get the opportunity to legalize their status. In particular, workers who became illegal after entering Romania legally will be able to take advantage of this benefit. For example, if someone goes to Romania on a work visa and does not get a job with the company concerned and does not find a new employer within 90 days, he becomes illegal. Also, in many cases, even if the employer deducts taxes from the employee’s salary, they do not submit them to the government or fill out the TRC application form on time. As a result, employees also become illegal involuntarily. In this situation, workers who entered legally and later became illegal are advised to contact the Romanian immigration authorities. Those who became illegal within 60 days of the new law coming into force are asked to contact the immigration authorities. However, those who have already received a ‘return decision’ (exit order) or entered Romania illegally will not be covered by this benefit. The final decision will be made by the Romanian immigration authorities. This benefit will be valid until December 31 of this year.
