Attack by lover at wedding, father commits suicide out of shame

After the groom’s party went to the bride’s house, two young women came to the groom’s house. One of them claimed to be the groom’s lover. Later, the marriage broke up after the young woman appeared. Locals claim that the groom’s father, Mohammad Suraj Mia (45), committed suicide after suffering a mental breakdown due to this incident.
The incident took place on Wednesday (July 29) night in Panishana Purbapara village of Ghagra union in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona. The deceased Suraj Mia is the son of the deceased Abdul Majid of that village. According to relatives and local sources, Suraj Mia’s eldest son Helal Mia (22) was supposed to get married to a young woman from the nearby Hiranyapatti village yesterday. As per the pre-arranged time, the groom’s party left for the bride’s house at around 1:30 pm that day.
After the groom’s party reached the bride’s house, two young women came to Suraj Mia’s house at around 3 pm. One of them is a resident of Kabirajpara area of ​​Pachakta police station in Kurigram district. She claimed to be the groom’s lover. The other was her cousin.
The young woman claimed that she had been in a relationship with Helal Mia for 10 to 11 months and they were together. They were supposed to get married on July 28. However, they did not get married because Helal Mia switched off her mobile and returned home. The young woman said that she had been married before and had a child from a previous marriage. She also claimed that she later got divorced.
The situation became complicated when this incident came to light at the wedding house. At one point, the wedding was not consummated. Later, the groom gave the bride and groom 50,000 taka for the wedding expenses. The bride and groom returned home around 6:30 pm.
Locals claim that Suraj Mia was mentally devastated after the marriage broke up. After the son went to the bride’s house to get married, he could not accept the presence of his girlfriend in the house and the eventual breakup of the marriage. As a result, around 11 pm, he committed suicide by hanging himself from a mango tree on the southeast side of Saidul Islam’s pond, east of his house.
Later, Suraj Mia’s wife Helena started screaming after seeing her husband hanging from a tree. People around her screamed and came to know about the matter. After receiving the information, Purbadhola Police Station went to the spot and recovered Suraj Mia’s body.
Purbadhola Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun said that after receiving the information, the police went to the spot and recovered the body and brought it to the police station. The two young women who came to the wedding have been taken into police custody for proper investigation and questioning of the incident. The matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
