5 arrested on honeytrap blackmail charges in the capital
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) has arrested five members of an organized gang on charges of honeytrap or love trap blackmail and extortion in the capital. Walkie-talkies, mobile phones and cash were recovered from the arrested. The Cyber and Special Crime South Division of DB gave this information at a press conference organized at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the capital on Monday (July 6).
DB police said that the gang first developed a close relationship with an official of a private financial institution through a female member. Later, they tactfully took her to a flat in Khilgaon, beat her up and recorded an objectionable video. After that, they took all her important documents and ATM cards, demanded a ransom of Tk 3 lakh and embezzled Tk 110,000 through bKash.
After a case was filed on June 22, the Cyber and Special Crime South Division of the Bangladesh Bureau of Investigation (DB) conducted raids in different areas of the capital and arrested them. There are multiple cases against this gang in different police stations.
