108 arrested in anti-immigration operation in Malaysia

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has arrested 108 foreign nationals for violating various immigration laws in a joint anti-immigration operation in the state of Johor. Among those arrested are 32 Bangladeshis.
In a press release today (July 22), Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohammad Rusdi Mohammad Darus said that the operation was carried out at various business establishments in the Taman Sri Bahagia area in Johor at around 8pm on Monday. The main objective of the operation was to ensure that foreigners reside and work in accordance with immigration laws and prevent the misuse of visit passes, employment passes and other immigration-related benefits.
During the operation, various documents including passports, visas, work permits, and other documents of those staying in the relevant establishments were verified. In this, 108 foreigners aged 18 to 49 were arrested on charges of various immigration-related offenses.
The detainees include 32 Bangladeshis, 22 Myanmar nationals, 16 Pakistanis, 15 Nepalese, 12 Indonesians, four Indian nationals, and three Myanmar women, two Indonesian women and two Nepalese women.
The Johor Immigration Department director said action was being taken against the detainees under the Immigration Act. They have been sent to the Setia Tropica Immigration Depot for further investigation and legal action. He urged the general public to cooperate with authorities by providing information on foreigners violating immigration laws.
