Awami League leader accused of cutting off wrist of Jubo Dal leader
A banned Awami League leader has been accused of cutting off the left wrist of a Union Jubo Dal leader with a sharp razor over a dispute over the division of a land plot in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon. The injured Jubo Dal leader and his mother are currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Police have arrested two main accused in a case filed in this incident.
The incident took place on Sunday (August 2) afternoon in Jalalpur village of Mathurapur union of the upazila. The injured Hasan Raman (42) is the son of Dudu Mia of Jalalpur village. According to local BNP leaders, he is the vice-president of Mathurapur Union Jubo Dal.
The accused are Mizanur Rahman, son of Momtaz Uddin of the same village, and his wife Amena Begum. Locals claim that Mizanur Rahman is a member of Ward No. 5 Awami League and his wife Amena Begum is the president of the same ward Awami League.
According to local sources, an argument broke out between Mizanur Rahman and Hasan Raman in the afternoon over the cutting of a plot of land. At one point, a clash broke out between the two and Mizanur Rahman hit Hasan Raman on his left hand with a sharp razor. This almost severed his left wrist.
When Hasan Raman tried to save him, his mother Beauty Begum was also injured by the sharp weapon. Later, locals rescued the mother and son and first sent them to the Upazila Health Complex and later to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Both of them are currently undergoing treatment there.
Dudu Mia, the father of the plaintiff and the injured, said that due to a dispute over the cutting of a plot of land, Mizanur Rahman and his wife hacked my son with a sharp razor and seriously injured him. When my wife tried to save her son, she was also hacked to death. I want fair justice in this incident. Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Hadi Chowdhury Tipu said that the accused are involved in Awami League politics. He demanded a fair investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
However, Mizanur Rahman denied the allegations and said, Hasan had cut down trees on my land. At one point in the argument, 6-7 of them attacked my house. I had a lawn mower in my hand. During the scuffle, Hasan’s wrist was cut with it.
Badalgachhi Police Station OC Muhammad Ruhul Amin said that a case has been filed in this incident. The two main accused in the case, Mizanur Rahman and his wife Amena Begum, have been arrested. The investigation into the incident is underway.
