No one should die due to lack of treatment in villages: Dr. Zubaida

Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) Vice President Dr. Zubaida Rahman said that in the future, no sick villager should die due to lack of treatment in Bangladesh, no pregnant mother should die. Even no newborn should return to her mother’s lap empty-handed. It is possible to develop a medical system that will set an example in the world.
She said these things at the ‘Annual Cultural Program and Recognition of Achievement in Education’ program organized at the Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital and College Auditorium in Dhaka today, Thursday (July 23).
Dr. Zubaida said that the country is looking at doctors. Surely, inspired by talent, labor, perseverance and patriotism, they will develop the desired medical system for everyone. Due to the lack of doctors in the rural areas of the country, villagers are being deprived of timely treatment. But if we move forward with the goal of serving the countrymen, there is definitely a solution to this problem too.
He further said that the number of doctors per 1,000 people in the country is only 0.83. That is, on average, a doctor has to serve 1,200 to 1,800 patients. This ratio is even more discriminatory in rural areas. However, if we are strongly committed to serving the country right from our educational life, then it is possible to change this situation. Dr. Zubaida said that 70 to 75 percent of the country’s doctors work in urban areas, while 78 percent of the country’s people live in rural and remote areas. Also, the number of nurses per 1,000 people is only 0.549. And according to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), there should be 2.28 doctors and 1.48 nurses per 1,000 people. But, the ratio of government doctors in the country is only one for every 6,500 people.
