Wife murdered by slitting throat in Kalkini, husband arrested

An elderly woman was allegedly murdered by slitting her throat over a family dispute in Kalkini, Madaripur.
This Sunday (July 19) morning, the police recovered the body of Jobeda Begum (60) and sent it to the morgue of Madaripur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. The accused Sultan Sardar was arrested in a raid in this incident. The incident took place on Saturday (July 18) night in Aoliarchar village of Banshgari union of the upazila. The accused Sultan Sardar is a resident of the same village.
According to police and local sources, Jobeda Begum fell asleep in her room after eating at around 11:30 pm yesterday. Later, her husband Sultan Sardar stabbed her in the throat with a sharp knife while she was sleeping at around 3 am. The police initially believe that Jobeda Begum died on the spot. Kalkini Police Station OC Zahirul Alam said, “The reason for the woman’s murder has not yet been confirmed. The incident is under investigation. The deceased’s brother has prepared to take legal action.”
