Two people, including a child, died in a road accident on their way home with the bride after a wedding ceremony in Nilphamari. At least 12 people, including the bride and groom, were injured in the incident. The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday (July 18) in the Shaltibari area of the Tengnamari road from Kishoreganj upazila.
The deceased are Jiban Islam, 7-month-old son of Zikarul Islam of Bandarpara area of Kachukata union in Sadar upazila, and Riyad Islam (20), son of Moja Mia. He was an HSC examinee.
Locals said that a microbus carrying 15 to 16 wedding guests from Kachukata Bandarpara area of Nilphamari Sadar upazila went to Yugipara in Kishoreganj upazila on Friday night. After the wedding ceremony, the driver lost control when he reached Shaltibari area on his way home with the bride. At that time, the microbus fell into a ditch on the side of the road.
At that time, seven-month-old baby Jiban and HSC examinee Riyad Islam died on the spot. At least 12 of the injured have been rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The condition of some of them is said to be critical. In this regard, Kishoreganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Gafur said that the bodies of the two have been handed over to the families through legal process. At least 12 people were injured in the incident.
