10 burnt in fire at Confidence Salt Factory in Chittagong
10 workers were burnt in a fire at Confidence Salt Factory in Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong. Six of the injured are in critical condition. They have been rescued and admitted to the burn and related wards of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital. The incident took place today (July 16) at Confidence Salt Factory in West Gomdandi Banu Member Tech area of the upazila municipality.
The injured are: Didarul Alam (32), son of Ruhul Amin of Boalkhali, Chittagong; Ujjwal Das (53), son of Biraj Mohan Das of Rangunia; Mohammad Liton (28), son of Abul Kalam of Sadarghat; Sirajul Islam (34), son of Ahmed of Chale of Lohagara. Zahidul Alam (42), son of the late Aminul Haque of Rawjan; Mohammad Zahid Hossain (38), son of Mohammad Ibrahim of Boalkhali; Nur Nabi (25), son of Nur Chapa of Boalkhali; Mohammad Alam (45), son of late Sirajul Islam of Patia; Mahmudul Haque (45), son of Khair Ahmed of Patia; and Selim Uddin (30), son of Altaz Mia of Chandanaish.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital Police Outpost In-charge Nurul Alam Ashek said that 10 people who were burnt in the fire at the Confidence Salt Factory have been brought to CHMEC Hospital. They are undergoing treatment. The condition of six of the injured is critical due to the severity of the burns. Boalkhali Police Station OC Mohammad Mozaffar Hossain said that welding work was going on in the factory. At that time, the fire broke out due to a short circuit. The fire quickly spread to a pile of paper nearby and the workers were burnt in it. The fire was later brought under control.
