1,000 missiles aimed at Iran: Trump
US President Donald Trump has warned that if Iran tries to kill him, the US will launch a massive missile strike against it. He claimed that the military has already been given the necessary instructions to deal with such a situation.
In a post on his social media account ‘Truth Social’ on Saturday (July 11), Trump said, “If the Islamic Republic of Iran tries to kill or assassinate the current President of the United States, that is, me, then 1,000 missiles are already pointed at the target and ready. Thousands more missiles will be launched after that.”
He also claimed that instructions have been given in advance in this regard and that the US military has the ability and readiness to completely destroy various Iranian facilities for a year or more if necessary. Earlier, Trump said that the ceasefire with Iran has effectively ended, but Washington later said that both sides have agreed to continue talks between the two countries at Tehran’s request.
Meanwhile, a report in the US media outlet Wall Street Journal said that Israel had provided the US with intelligence that claimed that Iran had a new plan to assassinate Trump.
In June, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding, brokered by Pakistan. In it, both sides agreed to end the war that began in late February and establish a long-term peace agreement. The agreement also included a cessation of all hostilities, lifting the US naval blockade of Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
However, tensions between the two countries have risen again this week over commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. After the US attacked several Iranian targets, Iran retaliated by attacking various installations of US interests in the Middle East. The Financial Times, citing two senior Lebanese officials, reported that a delegation from the US Central Command (Centcom) will arrive in Beirut ahead of Lebanon-Israel technical meetings to be held in Rome, Italy, next week. The meeting will discuss the implementation of the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory under the framework agreement signed under US mediation on June 26.
A US State Department spokesman said that Centcom was closely coordinating with both countries on the technical and logistical levels. He said that the implementation phase of the framework agreement had begun and the first test zone would be opened within days. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, 4,321 people have been killed and 12,204 injured in Israeli attacks in the country since March 2.
