Yemeni armed group threatens Saudi Arabia over airspace violation
Yemeni armed group (Houthi) has threatened Saudi Arabia and alleged that Saudi warplanes prevented an Iranian civilian plane from landing at Yemen’s international airport. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sari confirmed the incident.
Yahya Sari said in a video statement that Saudi “warplanes” prevented an Iranian civilian plane from landing yesterday (July 3). We warn Saudi Arabia not to violate our airspace or attempt to carry out aggression against our country. If such an incident happens again, we will respond severely. Our counterattacks will target Saudi airports and important installations. Yemen will not accept this unjustly imposed blockade backed by Saudi Arabia and the US, he added.
Sari also said that at 5:20 am (02:20 GMT) yesterday, the rebels foiled an attempt by Saudi warplanes to “intrude” into Houthi-controlled airspace. The aim of the intrusion was to prevent “an Iranian civilian plane carrying more than 200 stranded, wounded and sick citizens” from landing in Sanaa. Sari added that flights between Sanaa and Tehran would continue despite any “possible consequences”.
