Several killed in Belgium apartment building fire

A fire in a high-rise building in Antwerp, Belgium, has killed several people. Many others were injured in the incident. Police said on Wednesday (July 1) that a fire broke out on the eighth floor of a 10-story residential building in the city’s Linkover area. More than 200 people lived in the building.
Residents were evacuated from the entire building after the fire broke out. Residents in the vicinity were asked to keep windows and doors closed due to thick smoke. They were also ordered to turn off ventilation if necessary. A video shows a man entering from his balcony through the window of an adjacent flat to escape the thick smoke.
Firefighters are trying to bring the fire under control in adverse conditions. Police, emergency services and a special drone unit have been deployed to the scene.
