Class 12 student arrested in Ramganj Mehedi murder case

The police have arrested Abu Darda Md. Jobayer (18), accused in the murder case of schoolgirl Mehedi Hasan in Ramganj, Laxmipur. Additional Superintendent of Police Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.
Earlier, the police arrested him in a special operation conducted in different areas of Mirpur and Pallabi police stations in Dhaka metropolis on Wednesday night. The operation was led by SI Md. Soleman and ASI (Unarmed) Md. Mohiuddin. The arrested Jobayer is a resident of Baliadhar village in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali and is a class 12 student.
Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Uddin Chowdhury said that the arrested accused will be handed over to the court after completing the necessary legal process against him. An operation is underway to arrest other absconding accused in the case.
According to police and case sources, the hanging body of Mehedi, an eighth-grade student, was recovered from the residential hall of Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan Academy on the afternoon of June 16. There were injury marks on her back and neck. On that day, angry locals vandalized the main gate and several rooms of the institution. The deceased Mehedi is the son of Zia Uddin, a businessman from Sonapur Bazar area of ​​Ramganj upazila.
Last Thursday, the deceased’s father Zia Uddin filed a case with Ramganj Police Station naming the institution’s principal Khandaker Abdul Mannan and 7 students. In this, charges were filed against 10 more unidentified persons. Allegedly, Mehedi died after being beaten up by the accused students in the case of stealing an iPhone.
