Life imprisonment for 3 accused in Mukul murder case in Jhenaidah

The court has sentenced 3 accused to life imprisonment in the murder case of Mukul Malik, a youth from Gopinathpur village in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah. In addition, each accused has been ordered to serve another one-year rigorous imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 50,000.
Judge Gautam Kumar Ghosh of the Additional Sessions Judge 2nd Court of Jhenaidah announced the verdict on Thursday (June 25) afternoon. The convicted are Firoza Khatun, wife of Mukul Mallick of Dauki village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga, Billal Hossain, son of Mithu Mia of Gopinathpur village in Harinakundu upazila, and Alamgir Hossain, son of Monowar Hossain (absconding).
On the other hand, Faruk Hossain and Masud Rana, accused in the same case, were acquitted as the charges against them were not proven. According to the case details, on the night of August 3, 2017, Mukul Malik had a dispute with the convicted accused Firoza Khatun over a family matter. That night, Mukul left the house and disappeared. Later, on August 13, his body was recovered from a hole in the ground in the Baghmara field of Gopinathpur village. In this incident, the father of the deceased, Abdur Rashid Biswas, filed a murder case with Harinakundu Police Station as the plaintiff. After a long investigation and review of evidence, the court found the three accused guilty and gave this verdict. In the verdict, the court ordered that the sentences of the convicted accused be added to the previous prison sentences. At the same time, the acquitted accused were exempted from the obligation of bail.
