Police inspector withdrawn over multiple rape allegations

Police inspector Khorshed Alam has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl multiple times in Hatia, Noakhali. He was withdrawn from duty on Saturday (June 13) night and attached to Noakhali Police Lines.
Accused Khorshed Alam was working as the in-charge (inspector) of Hatia’s Jahajmara Police Investigation Center. According to the victim’s family and his statement, the child’s mother and brother had worked as cooks in the mess of Jahajmara Police Investigation Center for a long time. Due to this, the child often traveled to the investigation center.
Ever since he took charge as the in-charge of Jahajmara Investigation Center, Police Inspector Khorshed Alam used to call the child to his private room or house at different times. It has been alleged that the girl was raped multiple times there by threatening her. The accused police officer used to regularly threaten the child with death if he did not tell anyone about the matter. At the same time, he was also lured with money at various times to cover up the incident.
The victim’s family has mentioned in the complaint that they did not dare to disclose the matter till now, thinking about the safety of the family and fearing the police. When asked about this, the accused Khorshed Alam denied all the allegations made against him. He claimed that it was completely false, fabricated and a planned conspiracy.
He said that an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) working at the Jahajmara Investigation Center was transferred to another place a few days ago due to administrative irregularities. Due to this transfer, he got angry with me and also behaved disrespectfully with me. The girl about whom I have been accused, basically worked in the house of that ASI. I think that the ASI is deliberately spreading this propaganda to humiliate me socially and take professional revenge. The real truth will come out only after a fair investigation.
Since the incident came to light, there has been intense anger and tension in the Jahajmara and Hatia Sadar areas. Local residents have expressed deep concern over allegations of such a heinous crime against a high-ranking officer of the law enforcement agency. They have demanded an immediate, fair, impartial and influence-free investigation into the incident. At the same time, they have also called for strict legal action to be taken against the accused if he is found guilty. Hatia Police Station OC Mohammad Kabir Hossain said that the matter was reported to the higher authorities as soon as the complaint was received. As the incident is very sensitive, the accused Khorshed Alam has been immediately withdrawn from duty and attached to the Noakhali Police Lines as an administrative measure. The entire matter is being viewed with great seriousness. Further legal action will be taken after the investigation.
