Trump faces boos while watching NBA Finals in New York
US President Donald Trump faced boos from the audience while watching the NBA Finals in New York. Although this is the first time in history that a sitting US president has attended an NBA Finals game, his presence has caused mixed reactions.
On Monday (June 8), Trump went to watch the third game of the finals held at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York. The match pitted the New York Knicks against the San Antonio Spurs. When Trump was shown on the stadium’s big screen during the national anthem, boos could be heard from part of the gallery.
Due to the tight security measures surrounding Trump’s arrival, spectators suffered before the start of the match. A line more than two blocks long formed outside Madison Square Garden. Many had to wait for hours due to security checks.
Trump was accompanied by his granddaughter Kai Trump, Knicks owner James Dolan and several top administration officials to watch the match. New York Mayor Zohrab Mamdani was also present. In addition, many Hollywood and sports stars also came to the stadium to enjoy the game.
The streets around Madison Square Garden were closed due to Trump’s presence. Thousands of police and hundreds of Secret Service members were deployed. This caused many spectators and local residents to express their anger. Some complained that the additional security measures dampened the festive atmosphere of the NBA Finals.
However, not everyone was unhappy. Some spectators also viewed Trump’s presence positively. According to them, the presence of an important person like the US president in the NBA Finals added to the importance of the event.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks were celebrating all over the city as they reached the NBA Finals after many years. Various buildings were lit up in the colors of the team. Thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium and in different parts of the city to watch the game on the big screen. However, some events had to be canceled or limited due to Trump’s visit. It is worth noting that in the third game of the NBA Finals that Trump went to watch, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the New York Knicks by 115-111 points.
