Child falls from mother’s lap, 2 die trying to save it
Two people, including a child, died in a road accident in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila. The child’s mother, Ankhi Khatun, was injured during the accident. The accident occurred at around 9 pm on Sunday (June 7) in the Kolerkandi area of the Dashuria-Kushtia highway. The deceased were identified as Alif Hasan (8), son of Zahid Hasan of Kuldi area of Pabna Sadar upazila, and Baki Billah (35), son of Bashar Sheikh of Srikal area of Ataikula police station. On the other hand, the injured Ankhi Khatun (30) is the wife of Zahid Hasan.
Police and fire service said that Ankhi was going from Rooppur to Dashuria in an autorickshaw with her child Alif. On the way, when they reached a place called Kolerkandi, a motorcycle hit the autorickshaw from behind. As a result, the child Alif fell from Ankhi’s lap onto the road. Later, Baki Billah, who was riding the motorcycle, was trying to rescue the child. At that time, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction ran over them. As a result, the child Alif and the motorcycle rider Baki Billah died on the spot. In this incident, the child’s mother Aankhi Khatun fell on the paved road and was injured. Pakshi Highway Police Station OC Nannu Khan said that after receiving the information, Modern Fire Service and Civil Defense and Pakshi Highway Police Station police recovered the bodies from the scene. Housewife Aankhi Khatun was rescued in an injured condition and sent to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. He also said that the bodies will be handed over to the family after the autopsy. Legal action is being taken in this regard.
