Two vendors sentenced to seven days in jail and fined for selling rotten beef in Bagerhat

A mobile court has sentenced two meat vendors to seven days in jail and fined them a total of Tk 20,000 for selling rotten beef in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat. This Sunday (June 7) morning, Rampal upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abhijit Chakraborty conducted the drive at the upazila’s Foila Bazar. Veterinarian Dr. Abhijit Kumar was present at the time.
The convicts are Harunor Rashid (45) of Gobindapur village of Rampal upazila and Jamin Hawladar (30) of Khanpur area of ​​Bagerhat Sadar upazila.
Executive Magistrate Abhijit Chakraborty said that the mobile court was conducted based on the complaint of selling rotten beef in Foila Bazar. Based on the case filed by the veterinarian, the two accused vendors were sentenced to seven days in jail under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. They were also fined Rs 10,000 each, for a total of Rs 20,000, he said.
