Prime Minister orders cleaning of sacrificial waste within 12 hours

Dhaka South City Corporation is working to reduce traffic congestion in the capital, introduce an automatic traffic signal system and quickly remove sacrificial waste. The Prime Minister has ordered to further strengthen waste removal activities and traffic management in the capital, said DSCC Administrator Md. Abdus Salam.
He told reporters after a meeting with the Prime Minister on the signaling system of the South City Corporation at the Secretariat today (May 24). The DSCC Administrator said that work is underway step by step to implement the automatic traffic signal system in the capital.
Almost one-third of the scheduled work has already been completed. Work will resume after the Eid holidays and efforts will be made to introduce the signal system in as many areas as possible within one to two months. Md. Abdus Salam said that a target has been set to install automatic traffic signals at a total of 22 points in the city. The benefits of this are already being seen. Vehicles are moving in an orderly manner. However, to completely reduce traffic congestion, rickshaws and public transport must be brought under specific management.
He also said that hawkers have been evicted from many places to clear the sidewalks and a drive will be launched in the remaining areas after Eid. He expressed hope that if these activities are implemented properly, the traffic situation in the capital will improve significantly.
The DSCC administrator said that the Prime Minister is thinking about traffic management not only in Dhaka but also across the country. The Prime Minister has shown interest in the road development project from Gabtoli to Posta in particular. He also said that he will inspect this project after Eid. Md. Abdus Salam said that if the work on this road is completed quickly, vehicles going from South Bengal to North Bengal will no longer have to go through Jatrabari. Similarly, vehicles going from North Bengal to South Bengal will also be able to ply without entering Dhaka city. This will greatly reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
The DSCC administrator also announced a special plan for waste management ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. He said that the Prime Minister has ordered that the sacrificial waste of Dhaka city should be cleaned within 12 hours. Necessary preparations are being made for this purpose. He also said that lakhs of bags have been distributed for the convenience of the city dwellers, so that the sacrificial waste can be disposed of at designated places. Calling on the people, Md. Abdus Salam said that under no circumstances should sacrificial waste be disposed of in the sewer or anywhere else. If everyone cooperates, it will be possible to keep the city clean as soon as possible.
