Elderly man dies in road accident in Barisal city
A 65-year-old man named Md. Kamrul Islam was killed in a road accident in the Ruptali area of Barisal city. The accident occurred on the road in front of the Zamzam Nursing Institute in Ruptali, ward number 25 of the city, at around 12 noon today, Monday (May 18). Relatives of the deceased said that Md. Kamrul Islam was a retired prison guard and freedom fighter. He was a local resident of Ruptali area of Barisal Sadar Upazila.
According to local sources, he was seriously injured when he was hit by an auto-rickshaw while crossing the road. Later, local passers-by quickly rescued him and took him to the emergency department of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station Al Mapun Ul Islam said that the body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Relatives have been informed. If he is confirmed as a freedom fighter, his burial will be completed as per state policy and if the relatives do not want an autopsy, further steps will be taken as per the law. It is learnt that law enforcement agencies are continuing efforts to identify the autorickshaw and driver involved in the incident.
