Democracy must be ensured in politics as well as in the economy: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has commented that democracy must be ensured not only in politics but also in the economy. He said this at the inauguration ceremony of the second phase of the ‘REIS’ project undertaken by the Palli Karmasahayak Foundation (PKSF) today, Sunday (May 10). The minister said that in the past, a patronage economy was established, where the common people were far away. The criteria of most of the projects in the country were not ensured.
It was informed at the ceremony that PKSF will provide skill development and financial assistance to two lakh youth and small entrepreneurs under the ‘REIS’ project. About four and a half lakh people will be directly benefited by 2030. Climate-vulnerable areas in char, haor, hill and coastal regions will receive importance. It was informed that 1,600 women will be trained as ‘home-based childcare’ entrepreneurs.
The discussants said that small enterprises are making the economy sustainable. This is ensuring employment and training, which is contributing to reducing inequality at the marginal level.
