Talks pointless after ceasefire violation: Iranian parliament speaker

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibof said in a post on social media on Wednesday (April 8) that the US has broken its promises, making talks meaningless in the current situation. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported this in a report on Thursday (April 9).
Earlier in the day, the US officially accepted Iran’s 10-point proposal as the basis for a ceasefire and accepted the main demands raised by the Islamic Republic. However, a key point of the proposal was to stop attacks on all fronts, especially in Lebanon. But in the meantime, Israel launched a horrific attack in Lebanon, killing hundreds of civilians.
Ghalibof said in his post, “We have been watching the current process with distrust from the beginning, and as expected, the US has broken its promises before the talks can resume.” He added that the US president has clearly stated that Iran’s 10-point plan is the basis and framework for these talks.

According to Ghalibaf, at least three points of the proposal have already been violated—
1. The first condition regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon has not been met—which Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also called “an immediate ceasefire everywhere.”
2. An intruding drone entered Iranian airspace, which was destroyed in the city of Lar in Fars province—a clear violation of the airspace violation condition.
3. The refusal to recognize Iran’s right to enrich uranium, which was the sixth condition of the proposal.
He said that three important points of the “basic negotiating framework” have been openly and clearly violated before the talks even begin. He further commented that in such a situation, a bilateral ceasefire or any kind of talks—nothing else makes sense.
