BCB President Tamim, India’s reaction

Just six months after his election, the National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the committee led by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul. An 11-member ad hoc committee has been formed with Tamim Iqbal as its president.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seeing this change in Bangladesh’s cricket administration as a positive one. The organization’s vice-president Rajiv Shukla congratulated Tamim on social media and said that as a former cricketer, his leadership will further advance the prospects of cricket in the domestic and international arena.
The NSC said that the previous committee was dissolved after the election inquiry committee report raised allegations of government influence, irregularities in e-voting and abuse of power against Bulbul. The new ad hoc committee has been given a three-month term, during which fresh elections will have to be organized.
Political tensions between Bangladesh and India have affected cricket before too. There was discussion about Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from the team in the recent IPL. Due to this, Bangladesh refused to participate in the T20 World Cup held in India and later the BCB also stuck to that decision. Although they offered to shift their matches to Sri Lanka, the International Cricket Council (ICC) did not accept it, as a result of which Bangladesh could not participate in the last World Cup.
Later, when the new government was formed after the national elections, the Minister of State for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque hinted at improving India-Bangladesh cricket relations. Accordingly, the previous board started communicating with the BCCI about the upcoming bilateral series. Although there were doubts about how normal the relationship between the two boards would be due to recent events. However, Rajiv Shukla’s congratulatory message to Tamim is believed to be giving some positive signals.
