Joint forces operation in the Salimpur jungle of Chittagong
A joint force is conducting an operation against terrorists in the Salimpur jungle of Chittagong. Thousands of law enforcement officers are participating in it. The operation began in the early hours of Monday (March 9). Initially, the joint force identified several places by flying drones.
Later, the army’s APC tanks, police water cannons, armored vehicles, dog squads and several vehicles equipped with heavy weapons entered one by one. There was also an ambulance.
Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman, commander of RAB-7, said that this joint operation is to free the Salimpur jungle from crime and terrorism. The army, RAB-11, RAB-15, RAB-7 and police and BGB members from various districts of Chittagong Metro and Range are participating in it.
In the jungle of Salimpur, the dominance of Rukon and Yasin Bahini is mainly centered on cutting down hills to sell plots and collecting extortion. Clashes often occur. On January 19, RAB launched a drive to arrest Yasin Bahini’s chief, Yasin. At that time, Yasin’s forces surrounded and beat up RAB members. They picked up four people and brutally tortured them. One RAB officer lost his life in this. Incidentally, Salimpur is located in a hilly area of about 3,100 acres of forest. Due to its geographical location, the area has become known as a ‘safe haven’ for criminals. Currently, at least 1,50,000 people live in about 20 to 25 thousand houses, most of whom have come from different parts of the country to settle.
