9-year-old girl’s hanging body recovered, 6 arrested

After feeding her 9-year-old daughter, the mother went to fetch a goat from the field in front of the house. After half an hour, she returned home and saw the girl’s body hanging from a tree with a veil around her neck. Later, on the mother’s screams, the neighbors rescued her and took her to the local Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared the child dead.
The incident took place at around 2:30 pm on Friday (March 6) in Vikramasree village of Barhatta upazila. That night, the police conducted a raid and detained four teenagers and two young men for questioning. Netrokona SP Md. Tarikul Islam said, the matter is very sad. Initially, it is believed that the child was hanged after being raped. Hopefully, those who did this will be identified soon and brought to justice.
It is learned that the child was studying in the third grade of Vikramasree Government Primary School. The child is the eldest of three siblings. Her father drives a battery-powered auto-rickshaw. She had left in an auto-rickshaw yesterday morning. Returned at noon and ate rice and left again.
The child’s mother said, “I went to get rice and goat for my daughter. No one was at home. When I was going, I saw three boys near the shop next door. Later, during the festival, I did not find Tara anymore. I went home and held a dharna with people at my mother’s house. I want those who are doing this to my little child to be hanged.” SP Md. Tariqul Islam said that multiple police teams including Additional Superintendent of Police Sajal Sarkar are working. Six people have already been detained for questioning. Four of them are between the ages of 12 and 16. And two are 22 years old. An operation is underway to quickly identify those involved in the incident.
