Nurse killed in truck hit
A nurse of a government hospital was killed after a truck ran over her in the Nabiganj bus stand area of Bandar, Narayanganj. The accident occurred at 10 am yesterday (February 28) in the Noadda area of the Madanganj-Madanpur road. The deceased has been identified as Rita Halder (47). She is a senior staff nurse at Dhaka Nababganj Upazila Hospital and the daughter of the late Simon Bimal Halder of Kathira village under Agailjhara police station in Barisal district.
The deceased’s husband, Khokon Baroi, said that he was working as a field supervisor in an NGO and lived in Habib Mia’s house in Nabiganj area of Bandar. Yesterday afternoon, when he went out to drop his wife on a bus to Gulistan, his wife fell from her motorcycle onto the road. At that time, a truck coming from behind ran over her and she died on the spot.
Eyewitness Anwar Hossain said that the condition of the Madanganj-Madanpur road is very delicate. Accidents are happening on this road all the time. In the morning, I saw the motorcycle coming in front of the truck. Suddenly, a woman fell off the motorcycle onto the road. The truck coming from behind crushed the woman.
Bandar Police Station OC Golam Ashraf said, a nurse from a government hospital died after being hit by a truck in the Nabiganj bus stand area. We recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. The truck has been seized. The driver and helper fled. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
