2 killed in private car-autovan collision in Tangail
Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a private car and an autovan in Tangail’s Kalihati. The accident occurred on Sunday (February 15) afternoon at the Jokarchar bus stand area on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway. The deceased were identified as van driver Mohammad Amir Ali, son of Amjad Ali of Gohalia Bari village in Kalihati upazila, and Sharif Uddin, son of Abdul Mannan of the same area.
Police and locals said that a private car heading from Dhaka to North Bengal reached Jokarchar area and collided with a battery-powered autovan while crossing the road. As a result, the van driver and a passenger were injured. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Tangail General Hospital. The on-duty doctor declared Sharif Uddin dead. Later, Amir Ali also died on the way to Dhaka for better treatment. Legal action is being taken in this regard, said SI Shariful Islam of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station.
