Dog meat sale allegations in Naogaon, butcher absconding

There have been allegations of an attempt to sell dog meat at a khasir shop in Mangalbari Bazar in Dhamairhat Upazila of Naogaon. As soon as the matter came to light, the accused butchers abandoned everything and fled. The Livestock Department has confirmed the truth of the incident. The police have seized dog meat and various tools including knives used by the butchers. Tension is prevailing among the locals over the incident.
Locals said that local butcher Entazul and his associate Dulu Maulvi used to sell khasir meat at Tentultali intersection on Nengrapir-Isabpur road in Mangalbari Bazar. They used to regularly bring meat from their house and sell it.
It is alleged that on Sunday (February 15) morning, a dog was caught, slaughtered and killed at Entazul’s house and an attempt was made to sell the meat. Upon learning of the incident, butchers Entazul and Dulu Maulvi abandoned the meat and fled from the shop. Within moments, hundreds of men and women gathered at the spot.
Jahanpur Union Parishad Chairman Golam Kibria of Dhamirhat Upazila confirmed the incident and said that about 25 kg of slaughtered dog meat was recovered. Butchers Entazul and Dulu Maulvi fled. When locals informed the police station, Dhamirhat Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abir Hossain went to the spot and recovered the meat.
Dhamirhat Police Station OC Mokhlesur Rahman said that AI Technician Mizanur Rahman Mintu of the Upazila Livestock Department went to the spot and confirmed the truth of dog slaughter. Legal action will be taken in this regard. A drive has been launched to bring the culprits under the law.
