Businessman killed in potato-laden truck accident
A businessman named Zulfiqar Ali Shipon (45) was killed after being hit by a potato-laden truck. The truck has been seized in the incident. The accident took place in front of Bahadurpur Banshtala Rice Mill on the Jessore-Magura highway at around 9:30 am today, Thursday (January 8). The deceased Zulfiqar Ali is the son of Morshed Ali of Khaldhar Road area of Jessore town. He currently lives in Hashimpur village of Sadar upazila.
A relative of the deceased, Akram Hossain, said that this morning he was riding a bicycle from home to his business establishment in Jessore town. While reaching Bahadurpur Rice Mill on the way, a speeding truck (Dhaka Metro-T 13-6178) hit Zulfiqar Ali from behind. At that time, Zulfiqar Ali lost control and fell on the road. Then the truck’s wheels crushed Zulfiqar Ali and he died on the spot.
After the accident, the driver and helper quickly fled, but the local people seized the truck. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Barobazar Highway Police ASI Md. Kausar confirmed the incident and said that the truck has been seized at the spot and further legal action is under process.
