BCB denies claim that Bangladesh will have to go to India to play T20 World Cup
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received an official response from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the concerns expressed by the Bangladesh national cricket team in India for the upcoming ‘ICC Men’s T20 World Cup-2026’ and its request to shift the team’s matches. The BCB said in a press release today, Wednesday (January 7), that it has reiterated its commitment to ensure the full and uninterrupted participation of the Bangladesh team in the T20 World Cup.
The ICC’s e-mail reiterated its commitment to ensure Bangladesh’s full and uninterrupted participation in the tournament. At the same time, the ICC expressed its willingness to work closely with the BCB to address the concerns raised by the BCB. The organizing body said that the BCB’s views and proposals will be seriously considered in the detailed security plan for the event. Recently, some media outlets reported that the ICC had given an ultimatum to the BCB, but the board directly denied it.
Originally, on Tuesday night (January 6), cricket-based website ESPNCricinfo reported that Bangladesh will have to travel to India to play the T20 World Cup – the message that the ICC has given to the BCB. But the BCB has said that this claim is not true. The BCB has clearly stated, ‘Such reports are completely false, baseless and do not reflect the nature or statements of communication with the ICC.’
The BCB has also stated that they will continue discussions with the ICC. The board said, ‘Our aim is to work with the ICC and the relevant organising bodies in a constructive and professional environment to reach a realistic and amicable solution.’ The Bangladesh Cricket Board has reiterated that the safety, security and overall welfare of the Bangladesh national cricket team will remain the highest priority.
